Who you are As a Software Engineer at Virgin Pulse you will be working on a Digital Health SaaS platform that supports millions of engaged, active members in 20 languages across 190 countries, serving over 50 billion+ API calls every year to mobile and desktop users. You will be working with a passionate and strong team of engineers, product managers and UX Designers. With your strong background in cloud technologies and software architecture you will have the opportunity to develop, manage and optimize our tech stack and production pipelines. Who you are   THESE ARE NOT HEALTH COACH POSITIONS!  Engagement Guides at Virgin Pulse are "enrollment specialists".    This is a 100% on the phone position focused on outreach to our wonderful consumer members in order to help guide them through our products as provided to them by their employer.     You are passionate about improving people’s wellbeing. You are humble so you are “team-first” and bring in other’s opinions, but courageous enough to think outside the box. You are hungry to create meaningful change and exceed expectations. You are smart so you know when and how to collaborate and how to engage and inspire others to do their own best work.   Virgin Pulse is growing and seeking to hire Engagement Guides in Minneapolis, MNand remote locations. The twoweeks of training will occur remotely and require a commitment to 40 hours for weeks 1 and 2. Guides must maintain a reliable internet speed and meet the requirement of at least 10 Mbps upload speed and 20 Mbps download speed. How do we schedule?  - Guides choose their preferred schedule using a set of scheduling guidelines. Working hours must be within our business hours of operations. - Business hours of operations (CST): M-Th 7a-8pm, Friday 7a-6pm - Each guide is required to work one evening per week - Your ‘preferred’ schedule is reviewed and approved two months in advance to set your working hours. Your commitment to the number of working hours is consistent week over week. In this role you will wear many hats but your skills will be especially essential in the following:   - The majority of this role will involve unscheduled outbound phone interaction with participants. - Virgin Pulse Engagement Guides drive participation in Virgin Pulse programs with an emphasis on Health Coaching, an offering that supports meaningful change to meet the participant’s goals and interests by: - Utilizing powerful behavior change techniques to uncover individuals needs, goals and interests - Serving in a concierge-like capacity to provide personalized recommendations - The Guide role requires interaction with multiple technology systems. - Guides will be qualified and utilize the resources available to answer questions about Virgin Pulse Health Coaching, our products, and the employer’s-specific incentive design, benefits and programs. - Guides aim to maintain quality and productivity benchmarks to ensure goals are being met as part of the responsibilities of this role. - Guides may flex to support participant engagement based on business need. As an overall part of the Live Services Team our Guides may cross train to support participant engagement based on business need. They are knowledgeable and know how to promote and motivate participants to enroll in online Virgin Pulse programs. Outside of Next Step Consult conversations, we leverage our Guide’s knowledge, experience, and feedback through their participation in piloting new initiatives and other projects as needed. As such, being open and curious are strong indicators of success in the role. Who you are   As a result of our strong business growth, this integral role within the leadership team of Virgin Pulse Engineering is available.  The candidate will be a good fit if they align with our organizational focus on customer centric efficiency, long term thinking, and passion for technology.  This specific role focuses on overseeing and giving direction within our DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams.  This candidate will have a love for cloud technologies, scaling applications, communicating and establishing best practices, leadership, and wanting to be involved in building a world class engineering organization.    Being a skilled technical professional, you have skills in with experience in the Software as a Service (SaaS) sector, your key responsibilities and outcomes will include: - Overseeing the day-to-day operations, within the VP Platform Engineering group, encompassing the delivery of engineering projects, and the maintenance of platform.  Providing project management/directorship to deliver demanding and technically challenging projects on time. - Delivering on 100% SaaS platform uptime guarantee and acting as the highest-level technical escalation contact for the platform infrastructure and applications.  Implementing strategic risk-mitigation, remediation, and opportunity pursuit as required to deal with challenges and opportunities.  - Working closely with Engineering teams to identify opportunities to lower cost of operation. - Implementing engineering initiatives to improve team performance and workflow.  Examples of engineering initiatives include code quality, unit test coverage, source control practice and enforcing uniformity in areas such as security standards and continuous integration process that improve engineering efficiency. - Ensuring that engineering strategies and processes meet business objectives and operational needs with regard to cost, throughput / velocity, quality and delivery targets and which enable the company to win in the market (including the establishment of engineering quality and reliability standards by studying industry benchmarks and customer / business requirements) - Championing both DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) culture amongst Engineering. - Thought leadership and expertise in CI/CD best practices and enablement. - Ownership of various aspects of our Disaster Recovery process. - Developing and mentoring the skills and expertise of engineering resources.  Acquiring talent and supporting high morale of the team - Establishing and aligning department objectives and monitoring of ongoing progress and performance - Providing business line reporting to Senior Management as required(i.e. reporting on engineering activities on a regular basis, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of relevant metrics / KPIs, including velocity, budget vs. actual spend, etc.) - Working with the senior management team regarding which engineering projects are the highest priorities against the business targets and which can be executed with the available resource.  Ensuring the engineering group meets budget and other financial objectives.  - Ensuring effective communication between staff under management and other departments to facilitate exchange of information and implement change and improvements - Establishing and maintaining operational relationships with all functions in Engineering, as well as international counterparts. Acting as the representative of engineering team for communicating with – and supporting – external stakeholders, including GC Sales / marketing, key clients, third party vendors, information security and compliance, and with other VP departments.

Our technology.   Our next generation SAAS platform is using an exciting mixture of technologies: Large scale, highly available, public-facing websites built in React/Angular/Angular2 and leveraging tools like Puppet, Pug, Grunt and NPM to make things automated and repeatable. Our Java/Scala/Kotlin-based REST API is built on Spring Boot and Hibernate which serves traffic to both web and mobile consumers. We’re using a combination of Mongo, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cassandra and Redis.  Redis, specifically, is used extensively in a distributed locking system, responsible for supporting real-time data processing. All of this uses Amazon Web Services extensively for stability and high availability We practice Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery using TeamCity and Harness; as a result, we have continual smaller releases to our environments (Development, QA, Staging, Production) with integrated unit tests and code coverage analysis while eliminating the risk taken on with only a few large releases/product updates.     Typical day looks like: - Run a team that maintains and extends our very large platform including web and mobile applications, API services, and myriad back-end services such as data ingestion for activity tracking devices. - Work closely with product managers and your team to prioritize stories, get them estimated, scheduled for sprints, and keep them on track for delivery. - Manage developers and QA engineers who report to you directly, meeting with them regularly to ensure they are meeting their goals and happy with their career growth. - Collaborate and coordinate with the engineering management group to brainstorm future strategies and plan resource needs. - Work with developers and QA to get everything tested and merged for a release.
